Friday Poem ;)

by Nick Flynn

At fourteen, I wanted a tattoo.

At thirty-two, a friend and I dove into the then, less than acceptable tattoo underground. My mother was quite upset with me saying, ‘that is a permanent mark, a permanent scar!’

I explained laser therapy for tattoo removal ending my chit-chat by stating, ‘I have permanent scars from over thirteen surgeries. Those scars are permanent and can’t be lasered off. Tattoos are my scars of choice.’

A documentary on the history and art of tattoos noted many cultures denoted significant life events by inking – birth of a child, death of a parent, good health, survival~

At fifty, I celebrated with two more tattoos.

I think I’m done đŸ˜‰

Nick Flynn’s poem Tattoo gives us a glimpse into the mind and heart the soulful tattoo essence.
