Sunday Poem; Summer Olympic 2016 Rio Inspired

Maya Angelou life and body of poetry featured for Summer Olympic 2016.

She is one of my favorite modern poets.

Her poem ‘Still I Rise’ sparks tears every time. I heard her read on a public podium when she held US Poet Laureate position. During a time in my life when I needed inspiration, during a time I studied social work when my heart bled and my rib cracked in American Lit class.

My love for poetry continued to rise.

Visiting a friend’s aunt in Ontario, Canada, I retreated to the historical home’s bathroom after a looooong drive. Behind our hostess’s wooden bathroom door held a poster of Maya Angelou’s poem – ‘Still I Rise.’

I wept on the loo.

Inspiration comes in and from many forms and places, joyous surprises like Christmas in August.
